Here, in the Horn of Africa, the Earth has begun major reconstructioin work: it is opening up a new ocean in the middle of a continent. From the heart of this future sea rises the Erta’Ale vocano. Now, for the first time, a team of tectonicians and volcanologists are to travel here by caravan, then climb on foot to the caldera of Erta’Ale where they observe the only permanently liquid lava lake in the world.
