Beyond the scientific expedition it’s a human adventure. Whereas, the volcanos fashioned the landscape, the geography shaped people. The living conditions are among the most difficult of the world. Afars developed an economy of subsistence : they commercialize salt. For these people the volcano is cursed and full of interdicts.
