This film looks at aspects of contemporary scientific theory that challenge established views on the evolution of species. Some processes have now been clearly identified by scientists, while others remain mysterious. However, researchers almost unanimously work on the basis that contingency and chance govern the selection and evolution of species. No progressive logic has organised the biological tinkering that has led to the current configuration of our planet’s biosphere, 3.5 billion years after the appearance of life here.
