Silhouettes became alternately: slender, as inspired by Ancient Greece ; closed in corset, influenced by the rules of the bourgeoisie; masculine; then burdened by the return of the crinoline party dress. Fashion’s creativity expanded and broadened with the emergence of democracy, the birth of the textile industry and the invention of the sewing machine. And the first department stores appeared.
