In Burkina Faso, the Kassenas are reputed to be among the most skilful builders in Africa and perpetrate ancient styles of architecture, also one of the most beautiful in Africa. Both men and women help build houses here, but only the women decorate the dwellings. The designs adorning these houses are often inspirated by Kassena mythology or scenes of everyday life. A number of these women excel in pictorial art and transform these houses into actual works of art.
